EXIM Bank Encourages SME’s to Become Integral Players in the Global Trading System

As Jamaica heightens its agenda of becoming a logistics-centred economy, the need exists for the country’s SME sector to ready its machinery to take advantage of opportunities as they arise around the gradual build-out of logistics hub-related projects.  The EXIM Bank continues to take a proactive interest in the development of Jamaica’s logistics hub initiative by promoting the engagement and involvement of its customers and the wider business community in this critical process.

The Bank is committed to supporting this initiative and understands the integral role that SME’s must play in making it work to contribute to personal, organizational and national development. Based on the information that is available on a global scale, no further convincing should be required as the countries that have established logistics hubs have shown the tangible results of what it can do for the economy and job creation in the country. This initiative presents one of the best opportunities for the private and public sector to work together in a meaningful way towards one common goal. In seeking to advance this agenda, the Bank, through its Business Advisory Services (BAS), has been inviting the participation of its private and public sector partners in the staging of workshops or seminar directly or indirectly, to promote interactions, knowledge transfer, information sharing and exchange of new ideas.

These partnerships are in line with the Bank’s strategic goal of creating opportunities for Jamaica’s SME’s to access new export markets or expand exports into existing markets to accelerate growth in the economy. It is also part of a wider national objective to create the right environment and lay the appropriate foundation required to spur growth and development in the SME sector.

The Bank is throwing its full support behind this initiative and several others geared towards propelling growth in the SME sector and the economy as a whole. In endorsing her company’s support for the logistics hub and all entrepreneurial endeavours emanating from same, EXIM Bank’s Managing Director, Lisa Bell, said, “The EXIM Bank stands ready to finance any viable logistics hub-related project as we work to play our part in aiding the integration of Jamaica’s SME’s into the global supply and value chains.”
